Aerial views
|
Aerial views from our helicopter are dramatic, especially compared with those from an airliner. This is because we normally fly much lower - between 500 and 10,000 feet.
Most of the images in this group were taken by Carolyn whilst Richard was busy positioning the helicopter for the shot. They demonstrate another advantage of helicopter flight, the ability to hover, not just close to the subject, but in a particular position. Others shots are just snaps taken en-route.
The aerial perspective of the landscape is always remarkable. The lines and patterns formed by tide lines and watermarks, rivers and lakes, trees, mountains, sand dunes, man-made tracks and animal tracks, become fascinating abstract paintings. Nothing remains hidden. The nuances of colour are subtle. Bush fires with their smoke trails, clouds, shadows and light play, are animated players on this dramatic stage. And everything combines to form a visual wonderland.
